News
New BILT Associates
We’re so pleased to announce that 22 Associates have joined our team. They will be working across three themes: transition to University; evaluation of projects and assessment and feedback. You can see the full list of BILT Associates, and the areas they’ll be working on, on our website.

Student Research Journal
Our second annual student research journal is now available online. With contributions from 13 subjects and papers ranging from the effects of microgravity on physical health to the incompatibility of capital punishment to human rights, there’s something for all readers in this wonderful volunteer student-led publication.
CATE and NTF schemes – accepting EOIs
We are currently accepting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for the 2022 National Teaching Fellowship (NTF) scheme and the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) scheme.

We’ll also be hosting workshops for anyone interested in applying for the NTF or CATE schemes either this year or in the future – more details, including how to sign up, are available below in the Upcoming Events section of this Briefing.

Case Studies
We’ve been working hard all summer to develop a new Case Studies page. We’ve organised new and existing case studies into themes, faculties and curriculum framework areas. There are hundreds of case studies now available so please take a look at the page and have a browse!
We’re always looking for more case studies so if you have something you’d like to share with us please get in touch via bilt-info@bristol.ac.uk.

Upcoming Events
Introduction to HE Teaching at Bristol – register by 22nd Sept. (Course dates: September 27 – October 8)
This online course has been designed for those new to teaching/and or supporting learning including:
- Teaching support roles – for example demonstrators, graduate teachers and associate teachers
- Research staff (pathway 2) with some teaching responsibilities
- Teaching staff (pathway 1 or 3) new to teaching at Bristol waiting to join the PGCAP or the CREATE HEA Fellowship Scheme
Personal tutoring online workshop (September 13th, 10 – 11.30am)
This workshop is suitable for those new to personal tutoring and those wishing to refresh their skills.
This one and a half hour online workshop hosted on Blackboard Collaborate by the CREATE team aims to support you in:
- relating the University of Bristol policy on academic personal tutoring to your own practice
- locating different forms of student support provided by the university
- evaluating strategies for supporting students’ personal and academic development

Digital Design – (Individual self study, ongoing)
The aim of this asynchronous online course is to provide you with the digital design skills and knowledge to plan learning, assessment, units and programmes for flexible delivery. In the course you will:
- Critically reflect on your experience of teaching online
- Explore engaging and inclusive design for your context
- Analyse how different technologies can support different types of learning, teaching and assessment
- Apply principles of online design to your teaching, assessment, units and programmes

This online workshop session is intended for any teams who wishes to find out more about the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) scheme and are looking to submit an expression of interest this year or at some point in the future.
