National Teaching Fellowship (NTF) and Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) Schemes 2021 – now open!
BILT are now accepting expressions of interest (EOIs) for the 2021 NTF and CATE schemes. Those interested in submitting an EOI, are strongly encouraged to attend one of BILTs virtual events which will outline further details about the schemes, contributions from award winners and guidance on completing an EOI. The events are taking place on 2nd and 5th November, find out more and register on the NTF and CATE page. Closing date for EOIs – Monday 16 November, 9am.
Leadership Development Programmes
Staff Development have launched their 2020-21 Leadership Development programmes for both academic and Professional Services staff. The three programmes will focus on different aspects of leadership. See the programmes’ webpage for further details.
CREATE news
Following external review, the CREATE scheme is changing. Key changes include transforming the current CREATE taught routes (Associate Fellowship, Level 1 and Level 2 Standard routes) into a Postgraduate Certificate focused on learning and teaching in Higher Education. This will begin in early 2021. The CREATE Experienced Route will remain in place (now the CREATE Higher Education Academy (HEA) Fellowship Scheme) offering staff the opportunity to be recognised as Associate Fellows of the HEA, alongside Fellows and Senior Fellows. Additional changes include acknowledging staff’s teaching qualifications and experience when directing them to either the Postgraduate Certificate or CREATE HEA Fellowship Scheme. A new range of DEO inclusion resources are now available to support your teaching and include details on digital accessibility, representation and unconscious bias, inclusive design and variety and flexibility, view on the DEO website.
Revised Bristol Skills Framework
The Bristol Skills Framework has been revised to make it easier to use and to align with the aspirations we have for our students as expressed in the Bristol Futures Curriculum Framework. You can also access the revised Bristol Skills Framework on the PDP tab on Blackboard.

Towards a decolonised university webinar
Virtual panel webinar discussion on decolonisation as part of Black History Month taking place on Thursday 22nd October at 6:30pm. Discussions will focus on the importance of critical engagement with the ways in which knowledge and resources are shaped by the impact of colonial power structures, and how to create solutions. Inaugural Research Supervision Symposium
Current or aspiring postgraduate research (PGR) supervisors are invited to join this interactive online symposium. You will have the opportunity to learn from and contribute to the community of practice among supervisors across the University. The half-day event will feature a range of external and internal expertise to explore key issues in PGR supervision including cross cultural supervision, the wellbeing of researchers and sharing of good supervisory practice. This event is aimed at any staff who are currently supervising PGRs, or aspire to do so, as well as staff and managers supporting the PGR community.
