Students feel that the department recognises them. For example, tutors recognise the musical abilities of students at the Russian show, and also note the individual merit of students in translation feedback and group feedback in classes. The atmosphere is certainly always very positive, and tutors appear to have made an effort to make students feel welcome and like they are making progress without missing out on constructive criticism. All in all, I really think that studying in the Russian Department at Bristol is a wholly positive experience, and the fact that the team is able to smoothly teach such a variety of topics and teaching methods, whilst still being open to adapt if need be, speaks to the effort they put into their work and the ability which they have to teach students of mostly ab initio level the Russian language and about Russian history, culture, and politics.
