Bristol Teaching Awards
Over 1000 nominations were cast in the 2023 Bristol Teaching Awards (BTA). Thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate individual members of staff and/or teams. All nominees have been notified and approved nominations are viewable on the University’s ‘Thanks and Recognition Wall’ Awards, why not take a look now! The shortlist will be announced in early May and winners will be announced in June, keep an eye out for forthcoming updates. Congratulations to all of this year’s nominees.
Student Research Festival, Tuesday 25th April
Join us at our first in-person Student Research Festival on Tuesday 25th April, Global Lounge, Senate House. The programme is packed full with student research from a range of faculties exploring wellbeing, decolonisation and sustainability.
BILT Annual Conference, 12th July 2023 – Save the date
We’re very excited to announce that our annual conference on Building community and belonging in a challenging and changing world will be taking place in-person and on campus on the 12th July.
This conference will explore the role of community and belonging in creating what bell hooks calls “the best climate for learning”.
The programme includes two keynote presentations from Professor Nicola Dandridge (University of Bristol, formerly the OfS) on Belonging and regulation: an essential relationship, and Sunday Blake (WonkHE) and Gail Cooper (Pearson).
The programme will include sessions on:
- Student partnership and authentic learning
- Staff and staff/student communities
- Community and belonging within and between programmes
- Designing teaching and assessment to build community
- Student wellbeing and belonging
- Decolonisation and sustainability
- Developing student skills, confidence and community
We’re looking forward to sharing full details and registration information with you all after the Easter break. For now, we encourage you to save the date in your diary and look forward to releasing further details soon.
Blog Series. A healthy sense of belong – why does this matter?
In the second of our conference blog series, we take a look at a recent article reviewing some of the conceptual aspects of belonging (Allen et al 2021). Belonging was defined as ‘the subjective feeling of deep connection with social groups, physical places, and individual and collective experiences’ (ibid).
We are inviting responses to the question – ‘What does belonging at the University of Bristol mean to you?’.
The format of the response is entirely open. It could take the form of a photograph, a piece of creative writing, a piece of writing, poetry, an artefact, a poster, or any other medium.
