Lucy Berthoud, Professor of Space Engineering, has recently been successful in gaining her Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, an accolade awarded to those who demonstrate sustained and effective leadership in education.

Bristol Futures Festival by Dr. Aisling Tierney

Find out about the launch of the first Bristol Futures Festival. Held during Welcome Week it offered first year students a fantastic opportunity to find out more about the unique Bristol offer.

BILT Student Fellows

We are looking forward to welcoming this year’s Student Fellows here at BILT. Themes they are exploring are:

  • decolonising the curriculum
  • embedding sustainable development
  • research-rich learning and assessment
  • student belonging and well-being in the curriculum
  • active authentic teaching, learning, and assessment.

Watch out for updates on their work in blog posts and podcasts throughout the year, including the very popular Undergraduate Student Research Conference.

New Opportunities

Learning and Teaching in International Classrooms

Thursday 27th October, 2-4pm. Online.
Wednesday 9th November, 2-4pm. Priory Road Complex, 3F9.

In collaboration with the Centre for Academic Language Development (CALD) BILT are facilitating a workshop that will:

  • explore the challenges and opportunities in our learning, teaching, and assessment encounters with international students
  • consider lecturer and student experiences in international classrooms and how they are affected by its diversity of language and culture
  • share practical strategies and resources and reflect why certain activities are of great value.

Show, Tell and Talk – Developing a sense of belonging with 1st year students

Wednesday 26th October, 1pm – 2:30pm. Wills Memorial Building, Old Council Chamber.

We are excited to launch our 2022-23 Show, Tell and Talk series with this in-person event which will demonstrate examples of how a sense of belonging can be developed with incoming 1st year students. The workshop includes contributions from Steve Bullock and Angela Parry-Lowther.
