Rachel uses a mixture of lectures, interactive quizzes, group discussions, peer-assessment and guided exercises which have been very well received by the students. Particularly innovative is using pair programming 

The teaching of programming skills has different requirements than most other subjects and Rachel’s innovative approach balances the theoretical with the applied, and threads active learning through the course. 

Rachel is leading the way in inspiring a new generation of scientific programmers who will benefit from these skills throughout the rest of their time at University and their future careers.
