2023 National Teaching Fellow and Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence candidates
We are delighted to confirm this year’s candidates selected to represent the University in the Advance HE – National Teaching Fellowship (NTF) and Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) schemes. NTF candidates include Dr Foluke Adebisi, Professor Alvin Birdi and Dr Francesco Fornetti. This year’s CATE Team is the Undergraduate Medicine Curriculum Review and Development Team (UMCRDT). Many congratulations to all of those selected this year. The winners will be announced in August 2023, so watch this space for updates.

Show, Tell and Talk series
Our popular Show, Tell and Talk series continues in the new year. Each session focusing on a different aspect of learning and teaching. We start in January with two workshops. The first, on the 11th, focuses on community building and student belonging through in-person activities. This is followed by our Education sustainable development staff network on the 25th.
In February, on the 8th, we’ve a Zoom event to discuss how we can engage students with online materials to complement the in-person experience, and on the 22nd, we’ll hear from some of the academics who are trialling the new Skills Framework about how they are using it to engage their students.

Student Hackathon: assessment though the lens of the student
16 student undergraduate and PGT faculty and course representatives joined us for a one day in-person student hackathon exploring assessment. They shared experiences and thought about the future. In their final presentations seven themes emerged. We will be sharing more of the outcomes in the new year.

New Decolonisation and sustainability newsletter
We are delighted and very excited to announce the launch of a new Decolonisation and sustainability newsletter. With an introduction exploring the link between the two themes, blog posts to get you inspired and an event calendar not to be missed. Enjoy! We did.
Research Supervisor Symposium
It was great to hear from a range of speakers at our Research Supervisor Symposium on Tuesday. A range of ideas were presented and shared, including forms of communication – the pros and cons of WhatsApp, creating community through small groups and pairing students – the successes and barriers, as well as a Q&A with Dr Andy Radford. We left with a plethora of ideas. A special thank you to all who presented.
