Caitlin Price
Hi!
I am Caitlin, one of the six student fellows this academic year. I’m incredibly excited to work, alongside Layla, on the theme ‘Research-Rich Education’, responsible for delivering the first in-person Undergraduate Student Festival and the fourth edition of the Student Research Journal. I’m currently studying in the third year of my undergraduate degree in Social Policy with Criminology, and have recently switched to studying part-time to be further involved with projects and to make the most of everything on offer at Bristol!
During my second year at university, I became interested in the research required to develop effective social policies and was keen to actively engage with and conduct research. Last year, I worked as a qualitative researcher during my university placement at Sixteen Co-operative, a supported employment provider that supports people with autism and learning difficulties into permanent, paid work. Working at Sixteen Co-operative allowed me to design and conduct a research project independently, enhancing my understanding of research and its importance. I am very grateful to have had this opportunity as an undergraduate student, as it has enormously supported my studies and has shaped my academic identity and ambitions. This insightful and valuable experience has made me want to promote research-rich education and widely accessible research opportunities for all students. I am excited to work with BILT to actively provide research opportunities to fellow undergraduate students, and I only hope they will be as enriching for them as they have been for me!
As a member of the School for Policy Studies’ Inclusive Curriculum Committee, I work to decolonise the curriculum, promote inclusivity, and give students a voice as co-creators. Together with Layla and Evelyn, I plan to embed these integral principles within the research-rich projects at BILT.
Alongside my BSc, I have worked at the educational charity River & Rowing Museum for six years, and during this time, I have developed a strong interest in educational practices. Working at diverse educational events with young people has undoubtedly inspired my enthusiasm for creating active and authentic learning environments inside and outside the classroom. I am particularly excited about planning and attending the Undergraduate Student Festival since it will celebrate learning and research beyond the classroom and at the undergraduate level. I am really looking forward to hearing all about research directly from students across various disciplines, and I look forward to learning a lot myself too!
When I’m not working or studying, you’ll likely find me enjoying all Bristol has to offer – art, cinema, music, food! I also love to travel out of the city to go wild swimming, and I also enjoy playing a game of squash after a long day in the library 🙂
