Bristol Teaching Awards (BTAs) 2021 – nominations open Monday!
Please share details with staff and students. The Bristol Teaching Awards (BTAs) recognise and celebrate those staff who have made an outstanding contribution to teaching, the provision of support for students, and enhancing the student learning experience. The scheme also aims to provide an opportunity for reflection on our collective achievements in supporting teaching and learning in this most challenging of years.
We are accepting nominations for this year’s Bristol Teaching Awards from Monday! Staff and student are invited to nominate in a range of award categories including:
- Outstanding Personal Tutoring Award
- Inspiring and Innovative Teaching Award – 1 winner per faculty. Winners of this award will be invited to contribute to the Best of Bristol lecture series in Teaching Block 1 of 2021/22
- Outstanding Support Award
- Outstanding Research Supervision Award

Festival of Undergraduate Research – extension to showcase submission deadline!
The deadline for Undergraduate and Postgraduate (taught) students to submit their research for the Festival of Undergraduate Research online showcase has been extended to Wednesday 21st April. Students can find out more and submit research on the BILT website. All students and staff are invited to book tickets for the Festival in advance.
CREATE update including new policy
The new CREATE scheme which develops and recognises academics for their teaching is now up and running. The scheme consists of a new Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice, and an HEA Fellowship scheme, providing opportunities for development and recognition for all staff who teach and/or support learning. In order to make clear how Pathway 1 and Pathway 3 staff should engage with CREATE, a new policy has been agreed by Senate. The policy doesn’t represent a shift in the University’s position to ensuring staff without a qualification have the opportunity to be recognised for their teaching, but outlines how staff with substantial teaching experience and short-term or fractional contracts can obtain recognition in more flexible ways.

Decolonising the Curriculum – Interview Series
Our BILT Student Fellows are delighted to bring you this series over the coming weeks. The series seeks to recognise and celebrate the amazing work of so many at our University in challenging structural inequality. HEA Principle Fellowship Workshop – 22nd April, 2pm – 4pm
This two hour online, and interactive workshop is open to those who may have already begun to draft a Principal Fellow application and those working towards this recognition in the future. Bristol Teaching Celebration event – Wednesday 16th June, 2pm – 3:30pm
The Bristol Teaching Celebration event is open to all staff who have taught, supported and enabled the education of our students this year. Join us, along with the Vice Chancellor and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) to celebrate and thank staff for their efforts this year and for the announcement of the Bristol Teaching Awards winners.
